Our Perspective
The Powerhouse Theatre in a former electrical powerhouse is a story of community spirit and creativity. Originally an ivy-covered warehouse destined for demolition, the building was transformed into a thriving hub for the performing arts by dedicated volunteers. Since its opening in 1963, the theatre has grown from 150 to 236 seats, continually improving to meet the needs of its performers and audiences.
The theatre’s repertoire spans classic plays to contemporary works, providing something for every theatre lover. The venue’s intimate design allows audiences to immerse themselves fully in live performances. Beyond theatre, it serves as a versatile event space for lectures, receptions, memorials, and more. Its rich history, from volunteer renovations to award-winning productions, speaks to the passion and hard work of its supporters.
